Dating back to 1993, Colorado BBQ Challenge is a long weekend of events, food and fun that takes up more than six blocks of downtown’s Frisco's Main Street. In past years more than 70 chefs competed for the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion titles in several categories, including the best pork, chicken, brisket, ribs, BBQ sauce, side dish, salsa and dessert. Certified by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, Colorado BBQ Challenge is judged by officials from the world's largest society of barbecue enthusiasts. The winners of the Colorado BBQ Challenge are invited to compete in the American Royal, a world-class barbecue competition. Those eating instead of cooking can sample delicious food barbecue, shrimp, salmon, Philly cheese steaks and local beverages. Visitors can dance to live music, take part in pig races and road races and more. Partnerships with various nonprofits help make the Colorado BBQ Challenge an important and beneficial event for local organizations.
